A big THANK YOU for all the lovely gifts and all the well wishes received from all of you.  I feel truly blessed by having all of you as parents this year.  Your generosity is a real blessing.  I pray that you and your families will have a Healthy and Blessed New Year.

Our Christmas Party was a real success, thanks to the parents who so generously sent in items for our party.

AR - Our NEW GOAL for the new Grading Period is 6 POINTS.  Every student is also required to read 1 non-fiction book and pass the test.  The non-fiction book will be included in the total of the 6 points.  I suggest that they read their non-fiction book EARLY, since those tests seem to be a little harder than the fiction book tests.  In case they do not pass their first test, they have sufficient time to read another non-fiction book and take another test.  We have some “new” AR books to choose from, since we traded collections with the other 3rd grade classes after Thanksgiving.  The students will again receive a FREE pizza certificate from Pizza Hut when they reach the 6 point goal.  In case you have any “old” pizza certificates at your house, they are good for 1 month from the date that is on them.

SPELLING - This week begins the new procedure for tests - Our tests will be on WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY each week.  I would like to see our Spelling grades improve!  They will be given the new words like before, and the YELLOW/GOLD SHEET with all the Review Words will be sent home on Monday.  If you receive 100% on the Wednesday test, you do not have to take the Friday test.  If you do not receive 100% on the Wednesday test, then you have to take the Friday test.  Words that are missed on Wednesday will have to be written 10 TIMES EACH, and words that are missed on Friday will have to be written 20 TIMES EACH.  There will also be a sentence on the tests.  In order to get the sentence correct, the students need to spell every word in the sentence correct and have all the correct punctuation - including capital letters and punctuation at the end.  The sentence needs to be perfect in order to get it correct.  If there is only 1 mistake in it, it is counted wrong.

“ABOUT ME” Worksheet - This will be sent home on Wednesday as a Handwriting Assignment.  Each student is to know their address, including their city, state, and zip code, and their phone number, including the area code.  I have found that many students do not know all of this important information. Does your child know all of this information without your help?  They may be asking you for this to complete their assignment. It would be a GREAT

IDEA for you to make sure they know all of this information.

May you have a safe and enjoyable week!
