8F Homeroom:

· Penny Wars - Students did
an excellent job of bringing in money for this past week's penny wars.
Way to go! We had the most positive points on Tuesday, so
students earned an extra recess! Yippee! We also just found out
that our 8F classroom total was the highest in the school. 8F students
brought in a total of $304.03! Wow! Mr. Behmlander has awarded
us a pizza party for our efforts. All funds raised will be given to
Good Shepherd Lutheran in Haiti.
· Jay C Points - Please register your Jay C Plus card for Immanuel Lutheran School the next time you are shopping at Jay C. Our school receives helpful educational supplies as a result of this program.

7R English:
-Grammar: We will wrap up our review of patterns 1-7 in Shurley this week. Our final Ch 24 quiz will be on Friday, March 12.
-Writing: We will continue with Writing Workshop this week; Students will have time in class to work through the stages of writing. This week's focus will be: writing in Writer's Notebook and the stages in process writing. Our next writing deadline is Monday, March 7. Students will need to turn in a self revised and self edited persuasive acrostic on this date. We will use peer suggestions to revise our draft. A second draft will be due on Wednesday. We will then edit. The final draft (with the rubric, rough, and second draft) is due Friday. Students are asked to complete a 'Daily Log' each day in class. This will help track time/task management and help students organize their Writing Workshop time. Daily Logs will be collected on the last day of each week.
Writer's Notebooks:
Students will continue to write in their Writer's Notebooks this week.
Students have pasted a list of ideas for different entries into the back of
their notebook. All prewriting for drafts should go into the notebooks
as well. Entries will be assessed on quality, variety, and quantity.
Class time will be given to make entries on most days.
Writing Deadlines: Third quarter writing project deadlines are posted in the classroom. Students may work in class during writing workshop days on these projects and also work on them at home. Projects may be turned in ahead of time. I've listed the next few deadlines below.
-Vocabulary: We'll continue with our Word Watcher's vocabulary words, March #2, this week. Our topic this week celebrates the anniversary of birthday of Albert Einstein. Each week, students will be given a worksheet assignment for dictionary work on Monday, a reinforcement study guide assignment on Tuesday, and will be given a vocabulary quiz on Thursday. The quizzes involve spelling each word and knowing its definition. A bonus question will come from the Word Wall Words.

Friday, March 12 - Friday, March 12 marks the end of the third quarter. Grades for the quarter are due to the office before 8 a.m. as teachers arrive back @ school on Monday, March 22. This means all student work needs to be recorded in our grade-books before this time. If your child has missing work, or if your child will not be here on Friday, March 12, please have them take all tests and turn in all assignments for each of their classes before Spring Break.-Grammar: We will finish our review or patterns 1-7 in Shurley this week. Prior to turning in the final publication students will need get teacher approval on the rough and second drafts, get peer input on revising the rough draft, and editing help on the second draft. Students have choice of topic, audience, genre, and format for the publication. Time will be given in class on most days to work on the project. This past week students chose topic, genre, audience, and format. They did brainstorming and gathered information. After prewriting, students began drafting on Thursday and Friday. It is suggested that students have their first draft complete by end of 5th period on Monday. Revisions and a second draft should be complete by Thursday morning at the latest. 7 Literature:
-We'll finish our novel unit, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe this week. This fantasy is a wonderful novel that not only has exciting adventure and historical connections, but author C.S. Lewis also makes many Christian connections and analogies. I encourage you to read this novel along with your seventh grader if you haven't yet read it! Students will read 1-2 chapters each night. Most nights students will also complete a journal response to the reading.
-For our final assessment, students may complete a study
guide and take a test, or they may complete their choice of a R.A.F.T.S.
writing assignment. I have the descriptions for the writing assignment
available early upon request. I will ask students which assessment
option they plan to choose on Tuesday, March 9.

6 Literature:
-We'll continue Unit 5 this week. Our next story is
"Thunder, Lightning, and Tornadoes"
-Vocabulary to know from "Thunder, Lightning, and Tornadoes": dwell, accustomed, occasional, revived, elapse, phenomena, spirals, funel, persist, wrenched
-Reading Quizzes: For the reading selection quizzes from our reading book, students will need to know the definition of each of the vocabulary words and how to spell them. They'll also need to know the details of what happened in the story and be able to respond to specific ideas with writing.
-Students continue to read AR (Accelerated Reader). Students have set
their goals for 3rd quarter, and most of them have succeeded in meeting
these goals. Congratulations! All AR testing for the third
quarter must be complete by end of day on Friday, March 12.
The AR books should be novels that students have never read, on their
reading level (fourth grade and above), and one that they would enjoy
reading. Students should bring the novel to class each day.
Students will have the opportunity to read AR in class and to take AR tests
during part of each class period.
F.Y.I. Students can get a jump start on fourth quarter AR goals, by
reading a novel or two over spring break!
